Texas Teaching Commission

Texas Teaching Commission

Led by former Commissioners of Education, Chairman Mike Moses and Vice Chairman Jim Nelson, the Texas Teaching Commission convened stakeholders from education, policy, business and philanthropy sectors to take a holistic look at the teacher continuum in Texas. Through the strategic findings of the Commission in 2012, Educate Texas is continuing to increase the availability of information, strategies and ideas for aligning state policies and local programs to better train, support, evaluate and compensate Texas teachers.

The Commission was organized to:

  • Support a thoughtful and generative dialogue among stakeholders about  improvements and alignment of recognized and effective teaching programs and practices
  • Create programmatic and policy recommendations for legislative, state agency and districts to promote effective teaching
  • Engage cross-sector stakeholders to increase the state and local dialogue around identifying effective teaching initiatives and policies
