The Opportunity Myth

The Opportunity Myth
11.05.2018
Adults have always told students that doing well in school will prepare them for their futures. But too many students who earn As and Bs still graduate from high school unprepared for the lives they want to lead—not because they can't master challenging material, but because they're rarely given a real chance to try.
That's the focus of TNTP's new report, The Opportunity Myth: What Students Can Show Us About How School Is Letting Them Down—and How to Fix It. Researchers followed nearly 4,000 students in five diverse school systems to learn what they experience in school every day—and how schools can create experiences that will help more students reach their goals.

Educate Texas, the Texas Education Grantmakers Advocacy Consortium, TeachPLUS Texas, and TNTP proudly joined together to host an event focusing on The Opportunity Myth and what it means for schools in Texas. The event featured an overview of the report's findings and a deep dive into promising strategies that could create better school experiences for all students.
