Virtual High School Transition Forum: Transitioning Students into Higher Education

05.14.2020 - 05.14.2020
The transition from high school to higher education already presents a challenge to many of our students, and we struggle to prevent summer melt every year. The loss of the spring semester creates an expanded opportunity for summer melt to occur. We anticipate this challenge will be further magnified by the economic and health implications of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To address the potential challenges ahead, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and TxCAN  have restructured this year’s P-16 Professional Development Conference to host a virtual Student Transition Forum on May 14, 2020 from 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. The intent of the Forum is to create a space for participants to exchange innovative ideas and highlight bright spots on how school districts and institutions of higher education are working together as they support students transitioning into higher education. We will also discuss how policies and practices are being updated to ensure all students are on track to enroll in higher education in the fall.
The Forum will be followed by a bi-weekly 30- 45-minute learning series of innovative ideas discovered during the forum. Through this process, we hope to develop long term solutions that support students to and through higher education and into the workforce. The Forum will bring participants together with breakouts in virtual small groups with a facilitator and an experienced professional to discuss topic areas including:
  • Admissions
  • Financial Aid
  • Enrollment & Registration
  • Student Services
  • Communications

High school counselors, admissions advisors from two-year and four-year institutions, and other educators interested in participating can CLICK HERE TO EGISTER NOW! We look forward to your participation and engagement during this event.
