The Texas College Access Network (TxCAN) connects and supports college access initiatives across Texas, with the goal of increasing access to college and certificate programs. We believe aligning efforts across the state will help college access providers achieve a greater impact than any one provider could alone.

Ambitious goal. Collaborative Effort

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) has set an ambitious goal of ensuring 60% of Texans ages 25-34 hold a degree or certificate by 2030. To reach this goal, Texas must make strides in preparing all our students for a successful postsecondary transition and supporting them once they enroll in postsecondary programs.

Incomes shouldn’t limit potential.

Nearly 60% of Texas K-12 public school students come from economically disadvantaged families. Economic disadvantage is the strongest indicator in determining an individual’s likelihood of attaining education past high school, but it shouldn’t be. THECB followed 8th grade students from 2007 through 2017 and found only 13% of the poorest eighth graders went on to earn a certificate or degree. TxCAN is working to help change this reality every day.
