Open Educational Resources

The Texas Learning Exchange (TxLx) Open Educational Resources (OER) Library was developed to support pre-K-12 educators and leaders in Texas. These open materials are licensed by the authors/creators to permit and encourage adoption, improvement and retention. Materials may be in the form of textbooks, multimedia, full courseware and more. Most of the resources featured were released using terms of Creative Commons (CC) Licenses. Resources in the library may include:

  • Open textbooks, and course materials/modules
  • Ancillary materials, homework assignments, quizzes, and test banks
  • Lab activities, games simulations,self-developed educational videos, and learning objectives

This library was curated with guidance from the steering committee to develop and vet this list against the following criteria:

How to Use the OER Library

The TxLx OER Library was last updated on 12/17/2021.

The TxLx Open Educational Resources Library is intended to provide the best options aligned to many of the rubric criteria. The following content areas have been compiled to address instructional needs by subject area and grade. These resources are created by groups of content and teaching experts, including university faculty, district and school specialists, teachers:

 

Science

Sciences

The resources included here are primarily connected to the Next Generation Science Standards. A wide array of science content areas is included, and teachers, students and families can access textbooks, full courses, videos and a variety of supplemental support materials.

English Language Arts

English Language Arts

The resources included here are primarily connected to the National Common Core Standards and will support reading, writing and grammar instruction. Teachers, students and families can access textbooks, full courses, videos and a variety of supplemental support materials.

Math

Maths

The resources included here are primarily connected to the National Common Core Standards. A wide array of maths content areas is included, and teachers, students and families can access textbooks, full courses, videos and a variety of supplemental support materials.

Social Studies/Humanities

Social Studies/Humanities

The resources included here are primarily connected to the National Common Core Standards. A wide array of social studies and humanities content areas are included, and teachers, students and families can access textbooks, full courses, videos and a variety of supplemental support materials.

Other

Other/CTE (Social Emotional, Arts, Elective, Language)

The resources included here are included to help promote whole child teaching and learning. A wide array of career and technical education, elective and social emotional learning resources are included, and teachers, students and families can access textbooks, full courses, videos and a variety of supplemental support materials.

This compilation of courses provides a wide array of individualized learning opportunities. Participants can connect with others around the world over the duration of their learning, and many courses have optional “credit” toward degrees or certificates for a fee.

Resources in this category support educators leveraging a variety of tools for asynchronous and synchronous learning.

These sites are available to identify and use additional Open Educational Resources sources beyond what has been included in this website. These particular sites include strong vetting protocols.

Fee-Based

Fee-Based Content

Educators might find the need for curriculum and/or resources that are not specifically found in the Open Educational Resources clearing house such as adaptive courseware or a better ability to adapt content. In these cases, fee-based content can fill that need, and this compilation covers a broad range of content areas.

 

Open Educational Resources were released under an open license, granting permission for all users to:

  • retain - users have the right to make, archive, and own copies of the content.
  • reuse - content can be reused in its unaltered form.
  • revise - content can be adapted, adjusted, modified, and altered.
  • remix - original or revised content can be combined with other contents to create new content.
  • redistribute - copies of the content can be shared with others in its original, revised or remixed form.

These resources have been vetted by the project’s partner organizations using the rubric of qualifications and reviewed by the TxLx steering committee. TxLx is not recommending or endorsing any tools, but has made this Open Educational Resources library available to support education leaders in best serving all students.
